Four Roads to Vietnamese History: A Re-Visioning of a History of Vietnam Course

FAIN: FW-50064-09

To Support: A five-month revision of the project director's History of Vietnam course as a series of modules (and accompanying website) developed around four historical narratives.

My project has two parts: reconfiguring my History of Vietnam course to use travelogues as vehicles to deliver course content, and creating a hybrid traditional online instructional interface. This project will adapt existing course content to four travelogues, each of which will serve as a source to discuss a particular period in Vietnamese history (proto-, traditional, colonial, and contemporary Vietnam). Students will access the travelogues online and 'take the journey' represented in each travelogue, access thematic and cultural information at each stop of the journey, and add their own findings to each stop. The study will deepen my understanding of cross-cultural exchange and the concept of "mixed race" in Vietnamese history while enhancing my teaching.
