Updating Course Islamic Middle East

This proposal requests support for research leading to the improvement and updating of my HIST 332: The Islamic Middle East. The proposed reshaping of the course is motivated by my recent research on cross-cultural and interfaith interaction. The updated course will be 1/extended geographically and chronologically; 2/re-focused around a central thread, the interaction between Muslim and non-Muslim, as a principal component in the formation and evolution of the Islamic world; 3/ enriched with new sources freshly collected and translated specifically for the course.
