STLHEC will convene community partners to evaluate and
re-imagine “Arts in the Basic Curriculum” (ABC), the Museum’s signature
multi-visit tour program that serves 5,000 fourth and fifth grade students
every year. During the project period, participants will engage in a
professionally facilitated process to uncover the challenges and opportunities
of the ABC program, and to identify the humanities standards, instructional approaches,
and resources that can be applied to its improvement. Anticipated outcomes
include: (1) strengthened cooperation and programming relationships between the
Museum and participating organizations; (2) a re-envisioned ABC program with a
strong humanities education focus; (3) co-originated ideas for
school-museum-community partnership initiatives; (4) an enhanced understanding
of local financial resources and expertise available to support humanities
education partnership initiatives; and (5) an evaluation plan to measure the
short-and long-term impact of the revised ABC program.
