Emmett Till Scholar Tour - Engagement Manager to oversee programming and produce educational materials

FAIN: GA-269810-19

Mosaic Theater Company of DC (Washington, DC 20002-4446)
Ari Roth (Project Director: April 2019 to July 2019)
Victoria Murray Baatin (Project Director: July 2019 to January 2026)

Mosaic will work with scholar/dramaturgs Isaiah Wooden (Brandeis University) and Khalid Yaya Long (Columbia College, Chicago), both of whom have worked with Mosaic on current and previous seasons; director Talvin Wilks; and playwright Ifa Bayeza to generate a short volume of essays, primary source materials and interviews that provide comprehensive context for our discussion series. We will make this publication available online for free to ensure that the insights and scholarly content can impact the broader public across the country and for years to come. Discussion themes for this program series include: Ifa Bayeza’s process as artist-archivist (echoing her “Walking With Emmett” series), the contemporary relevance and lessons of the Till tragedy, and the primacy of the Black press in helping to bring accountability to the murder of Emmett Till. Events will feature dramatic readings from THE TILL TRILOGY by professional actors and the program will explore topics including the methodologies derived from the humanities that formed the foundation of this work. The Engagement Manager will be responsible for building relationships with partner institutions; booking guests and building audiences for events; curating and leading programs; producing auxiliary materials; and following up with host sites and attendees to evaluate programming.
