To support the creation and touring of the exhibit "Freeman Vines:  Hanging Tree Guitars," a unique interdisciplinary presentation of the African-American experience in the rural South centered on the art and words of Freeman Vines.  Vines is a luthier living in rural, eastern North Carolina who uses hand tools to craft evocative guitars from repurposed timber, including wood from a felled tree on which an African American man named Oliver Moore was lynched in 1930.
