Chairman's Grant for Repairs & Restoration of the Wisconsin Forward and Col. Hans Christian Heg Statues

FAIN: GA-278549-20

Wisconsin Department of Administration (Madison, WI 53703-3405)
Paula Veltum (Project Director: September 2020 to October 2022)

If received, the Chairman’s Grant of $30,000 would fund the repair and restoration of the “Forward” and Col. Hans
Christian Heg statues in the State of Wisconsin. The restoration work to repair these damaged statues has been
approved by the State Capitol & Executive Residence Board (SCERB). The Department of Administration is working
closely with the Wisconsin Historical Society’s foundation, which has agreed to be the fiduciary organization to
derive additional monies needed to complete the statue’s restoration. The State of Wisconsin has identified
Giorgio Gikas, sculpture conservator, and his company Venus Bronze Inc. to conduct the restoration beginning in
the fall of 2020 and ending in the summer of 2021. We believe that the restoration of the “Forward” and Hans
Christian Heg statues meets the mission of the National Endowment of the Humanities by making the statues and
their stories available to all Americans.
