FAIN: GE-228375-15

Historical Society of Minnesota (St. Paul, MN 55102-1903)
Brian Horrigan (Project Director: August 2014 to October 2016)

Planning for a traveling exhibition, a website, and programs examining the history of World War I and its impact on America.

The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) seeks support from the National Endowment for the Humanities in the amount of $75,000 to continue research and development for the "Over Here Project." In partnership with three other leading historical institutions--the National Constitution Center, the National World War One Museum, and the Oakland Museum of California--MNHS is conducting a nationwide search for stories, images, and objects that will help museum visitors gain a more nuanced understanding of the history of World War I and its contested American legacies. The principal product of the project is a major traveling exhibition, with an opening timed for the 2017 centennial of American entry into the War, and a tour from 2017 through 2019. A companion website, public programs, and educational materials will also be developed. The total project budget, estimated at $2,200,000, will be raised from a combination of public, foundation, and corporate sponsorship sources.
