Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS) seeks $75,000 (total project budget $215,222) for planning Crossing Borders, Bridging Generations: A Study of Mixed-Heritage Families in Brooklyn, a multi-faceted interpretive website comprising sharply-focused, multi-media mini exhibitions; oral histories collected between 1973 and the present; an historic timeline; scholarly commentary and scholar-led discussion forums; and a series of public programs and events that explore the history of mixed-heritage families living in Brooklyn. This project, designed to create a deep and sustained focus on an essential aspect of American culture, encourages the public to recognize that the history of cross-cultural unions and children of mixed heritage is fundamental to understanding American history.
