Planning of a new 3,500-square-foot permanent exhibition about the ways in which international cultures have interacted in Boston from 1913 to the present.

Boston Children’s Museum is requesting a Planning Grant for the development of a new permanent exhibition tentatively titled From Time to Time: 100 Years of Change in Boston, for children 5-12 years old, their families and educators. This 3,500 square foot permanent exhibition will explore the ways in which international cultures have interacted with one another to create a unique form of “American” culture in Boston, thus responding to the NEH Bridging Cultures initiative. The exhibit will focus on people, Boston’s mix of international cultures; place, Boston, the city our visitors know and BCM’s home; and history, from 1913 to 2013. The opening in June 2013 will mark the beginning of BCM’s centenary celebrations, which will also include major public and educational programs. The goal of the exhibition is to engage children and families in exploring the dynamic interactions among people, place, and history within the context of vibrant, immersive, multimedia experiences.
