Implementation of a group of new permanent exhibitions, including interactive experiences, within the Iolani Palace of 1882.

The Friends of Iolani Palace seeks funding for the final design, fabrication, and implementation phase for Points of Contact, new permanent exhibits to be located in the Iolani Palace Galleries. The exhibits are being developed on the topics of Cuisine in the Palace, Music in the Palace, Hawaii in World Politics, and Royal Legacy and address themes of colonization and indigenous resistance and cultural revival. Using interactive technology and visitor and family-centered exhibition strategies, these exhibits will extend and enhance the current 1882-1895 narrative told through Palace tours. They will bring the history of Hawaii's last monarchs to life and connect their legacy to the present for international and local visitors and facilitate inter-generational learning. Bi-lingual labels will better represent Native Hawaiians, many of whom consider the Palace a sacred space. Once installed, these exhibits will form a basis for community centered programming and curriculum development.
