Implementation of a traveling exhibition, a website, and public programs examining the history of World War I and its impact on America.

The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) seeks support from the National Endowment for the Humanities in the amount of $1,000,000 for implementation of the exhibition WW1 America. In partnership with four other leading historical institutions—the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the National Constitution Center, the National World War One Museum, and the Oakland Museum of California—MNHS is producing a major, 5,000-sf exhibition on America during the World War I era, 1914-19. WW1 America will help museum visitors gain a nuanced understanding of the War as a transformational moment in American history. An opening is planned to coincide with the April 2017 centennial of American entry into the War; the exhibition will tour nationally 2017-20. The project includes a website and the development of educational and public programs. The total project budget, estimated at $4,089,000, will come from grants, institutional funds, and rental fees from the tour of seven additional sites.
