Native Voices: New England Tribal Families

FAIN: GI-50111-10

Boston Children's Museum (Boston, MA 02210-1016)
Gail Ringel (Project Director: February 2009 to June 2013)

Implementation of a traveling exhibition for children ages five to twelve and their families about cultural continuity and contemporary Native American life in New England.

Boston Childrens Museum (BCM) will create a new traveling exhibition for children 5-12 years old and their parents and educators about cultural continuity and contemporary Native American life in New England. Utilizing a personalized interpretive technique that is developmentally appropriate for our young audience, Native Voices: New England Tribal Families will feature four actual Native American youth as cultural guides. Showcasing and contextualizing BCM's distinguished Native American collection, the exhibit will build on BCM's thirty years of working with tribal communities and scholars to present authentic first-person perspectives; our success in creating engaging cultural exhibitions for children and families; and our depth of oral history research and educational resources for teaching and learning about New England Native Americans.
