FAIN: GI-50495-12

Baltimore Museum of Art (Baltimore, MD 21218-3898)
David Park Curry (Project Director: January 2012 to October 2015)

Implementation of the reinstallation of the galleries of American fine and decorative art.

The Baltimore Museum of Art requests a $350,000 Implementation Grant to reinstall its galleries of American fine and decorative arts. This new presentation and interpretation will feature 300-350 objects from 1760 to 1960, drawing on the Museum's rich American collection, one of the finest on the East Coast. Located on the main level of the Museum, the reinstallation will occupy an 11,000 square-foot space that will include a suite of nine collection galleries, a changing exhibition gallery, a display space for small decorative objects, and three period architectural interiors whose objects will be rotated on a regular basis. The objects will be organized chronologically and interpreted thematically, with fine and decorative arts integrated to tell the story of American art within an international context. The interpretation will lay fresh emphasis upon the international nature of American art, which was stimulated by foreign travel, trade, and cultural exchange.
