FAIN: GI-50663-14

Folger Shakespeare Library admin by Trustees of Amherst College (Washington, DC 20003-1004)
Michael Lawrence Witmore (Project Director: August 2013 to November 2017)

Implementation of a national traveling exhibition featuring an original copy of Shakespeare's First Folio, interpretive panels on the history of the First Folio, and related public programming.

The Folger Shakespeare Library requests a Chairman's Special Award, including a two-year Position in Public Humanities, to support the implementation of the national traveling exhibition, "Shakespeare and his First Folio." As part of international public events planned for 2016 in observance of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, libraries across the nation--in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands-- will present the exhibition. Partners with the Folger on this national project are the American Library Association and Cincinnati Museum Center, both accomplished in traveling exhibitions of this magnitude. The first of its kind exhibition, "Shakespeare and his First Folio" will feature one of the Folger's 82 original copies of the 1623 First Folio--the first collected edition of Shakespeare's plays--and six interpretive panels. The Folger will also disseminate the rich content through comprehensive web and social media.
