Implementation of a permanent, multimedia exhibition on the history of Chattanooga, Tennessee, with an emphasis on the role of the city in a national context.

The Chattanooga History Center requests $400,000 to complete the final phase of fabrication and installation of a permanent exhibition in its new multi-media rich, interactive interpretive center located on Chattanooga's historic riverfront. Opening in January 2015, the CHC's new center is located in the heart of nearly all of the historical sites depicted in its permanent exhibition and will use the region's rich historical record as an object lesson in the stakes of civic engagement. This proximity imbues CHC with a particularly strong sense of place and--on a practical level--makes possible its role as a hub for self-guided and group heritage walking tours. The new center will activate the latest museum technologies, which will permit visitors to engage deeply with areas within the exhibit and the city's historic landscape. The exhibits and teaching space will be over 24,000 square feet, and the CHC will serve over 69,000 visitors annually.
