Branching Out: Poetry for the 21st Century

FAIN: GL-50614-04

Poets House, Inc. (New York, NY 10282-1240)
Lee Ellen Briccetti (Project Director: February 2004 to March 2007)

Implementation of reading and discussion programs, bus and subway posters, and a companion website exploring 20th-century poetry, as well as intensive training for librarians in five cities.

Branching Out: Poetry in the 20th Century will combine the greatest programmatic assets of Poets House and The Poetry Society of America, together with A-list scholarly talent, to stimulate broader and deeper national discourse about poetry. Leading scholars will present accessible, engaging lectures in public libraries in 5 pilot cities. The coordinated implementation of Poetry in Motion, the PSA's popular initiative which places poems in public trains and buses, will stir interest in poetry. Poets House, through its award-winning Poetry in the Branches initiative, will mentor participating libraries to amplify and sustain that interest. A companion web site will further extend the program's impact.
