To preserve the historic San Mateo as a maritime interpretive center primarily aimed at the adult level of understanding. To develop exhibits which portray not only the factual progression of maritime history on the Northwest Coast but emphasize the human side of the sea i.e. lives of seamen, maritime craftsmen, and workers involved in the maritime world. Exhibits are to relate human contributions of the maritime world to the present and future environment of the Pacific Northwest.
