Interpretive Exhibit of Historical Architecture at Strawbery Banke

FAIN: GM-10999-77

Strawbery Banke Museum (Portsmouth, NH 03802-0300)
Peggy Armitage (Project Director: May 1977 to present)

To create a thematic exhibition "A Maritime City: Portsmouth... Its Builder's their lives and works" to be housed in four historic structures. The buildings and collections of tools, artifacts and documents will enhance existing exhibits by interpreting the region's building crafts and craftsmen within the framework of social, cultural and economic factors of the 17th-19th centuries. An interpretive brochure map will be printed. Two of the houses will themselves be the exhibit and the other two will be mounted with formal exhibits. Each exhibit component augments the others and the entire museum complex.
