Implementation of a site-wide reinterpretation to place Andrew Jackson and his home, The Hermitage, in the context of United States history from the Revolution to the Civil War era.
This is a project to re-interpret The Hermitage. Under the broad theme of “The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson, and a Changing America,” we will place Jackson and this site in a wider context of the events and trends developing throughout America in his time. We will interpret six themes: Growing Democracy, Cotton Economy and Slavery, Westward Expansion and American Indians, Reform and Religion, Women’s Lives in a Changing America, and Developing a Distinct American Culture. We are planning a lively and engaging visitor experience that interprets a time period that was crucial to the transition of the country from Revolution to Civil War.
