Ancient Greece: An Exhibition for Children and Families

FAIN: GM-50354-04

Children's Museum of Manhattan (New York, NY 10024-4901)
Karen Snider (Project Director: March 2004 to July 2005)

Consultation with scholars to develop the themes for a traveling exhibition introducing children to the world of ancient Greece.

Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) seeks a consultation grant to investigate innovative ways to develop an interactive exhibition about Greek culture to remedy the declining knowledge among children of classical motifs and how they underpin western civilization. The Museum will convene a cadre of scholars in the areas of classical art and archeology, literature and education to identify how best to employ art and artifacts borrowed from local museums to create an interactive exhibition that will bring the lessons and spirit of Classical Greece to children ages 5-10. The exhibition will aim to spark an appreciation for and lasting fascination with the classical era.
