Making a House an American Home: Interpreting Immigration to the Chippewa Valley

Consultation for the development of an interpretive plan for three historic houses in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to identify interconnections and to place the houses in the broader narrative of immigration to the American heartland.

The Center for History Teaching and Learning at UW-Eau Claire is applying for a consultation grant to support: Making a House an American Home: Interpreting Immigration to the Chippewa Valley through the Schlegelmilch, Anderson and Ager Houses. These houses are currently interpreted by the Chippewa Valley Museum and Waldemar Ager Association. During a two-day interpretive workshop our project team will consult with scholars of immigration history and interpretive specialists. We will develop a new thematic interpretation so visitors will experience the interconnections between the three houses and understand their place within the broader narrative of immigration to America’s heartland.
