ABSTRACT: KQED-TV to produce 2 TV programs in American History adapting for public TV the multi-media presentations successfully employed by UC, Berkeley professor of history. Lecture format expanded to include music, slides, films, advertising, TV, cinema and popular music--materials as meaningful as traditional archives in examining American history and society. Materials and presentations designed to challenge the viewer, to point up contradictions in his own thinking, to raise questions without necessarily answering them. First program "American Society Since 1945" will deal with youth culture, the black experience, rural and urban society, impact of advertising, ecology, and conflict/confrontation. Second program "Black America" a meaningful look at the culture and institutions which Black people have developed in response to predominantly white society. Programs will be available for use in college and secondary school classrooms, discussion groups, etc. Funds for salaries, travel, studio facilities, materials, etc.
