Planning of a four-hour documentary film series on the history of Washington, D.C.

The purpose of this project is to create the first comprehensive history of the city of Washington, DC, to be presented as a documentary series on PBS. The story of official Washington is well known, but the rich local history of the city in the context of national aspirations and events has never been the focus of a major documentary. Building on the scholarship of the last decade, the project will shed new light on the history of the capital city and the significance of this history as it relates to the continuing evolution of our national identity. The scholars and producers will discuss ideas and insights about Washington and the structure of the documentary . Archival and visual resource research will also be advanced.
