Planning of a three-part television documentary that examines the critical constitutional issues that Abraham Lincoln faced during the Civil War.

Democracy at War: Lincoln’s Three Challenges will be a dramatic three-part documentary series that illuminates the critical constitutional issues Abraham Lincoln faced during the Civil War. By examining the evolution of Lincoln’s views and presidential decisions regarding slavery, secession, and civil liberties, the programs will encourage viewers to contemplate the legacies of these challenges in our own time. The documentary is planned for release in 2009, during Lincoln’s bicentennial, and will feature footage of rare artifacts and manuscripts, along with the contributions of leading scholarly and popular Lincoln experts. The program is expected to air on PBS and/or commercial platforms offering access to a broad audience.
