Conversations with Humanists: Philosophical Views of the Declaration of Independence

In 10 - monthly "conversations" to focus on the philosophical aspects of the foundations of democracy in this country. Each program will have 3 approximately 50 min. periods 1) one or two visiting scholars will prepare the ground and point the direction of the conversation, 2) local scholars and teachers will exchange views with visiting scholars and one another, 3) the public will exchange views with the scholars. Among the subjects to be considered are: the philosophical foundations of the Declaration; influences on the Founding Fathers; the philosophy of Adams, Madison, Jefferson, Carroll, the future of democracy.
