Family Structure on the Overland Trail 1840-1860

To support research into the structure of the family on the Overland Trail from 1840 to 1860 in light of the importance of geographic mobility as a force in American family life. Special attention will be paid to the role of paternal authority, the role of women and child-rearing practices on the Overland Trail to California and Oregon.
