This grant explores the historical meanings of teh concepts oforganism, species, and health particularily in the works of Aristotle, Hippocrates, Galen, Darwin and Claude Bernard. the works of these men will be critically examinined in teh context of their implications for contemporary ethics in the biomedical field.
