To synthesize recent developments in semiotics, aesthetics, art criticism, and structural anthropology for the analysis of complex art forms in American culture. To modify existing notational systems for human movement as required in the analysis of dance forms under the purview of the above synthesis. To contribute to our understanding of the forms and values exemplified by the traditions of classical and contemporary dance in America.
