To preserve on tape and in writing the recollections of veteran circus people, and to examine and document primary source material, both in private and institutional collections, in order to write a scholarly study of American circus life and history. This effort is significant both in terms of the study of a particular sociological entity within our larger society, and in terms of artistic life and endeavor as part of the historical study of American popular culture.
