To research and write a history of the influence of the introduction of psychoanalytic thought on the theory and practice of American feminism from 1900-1930 through exploring the thesis that an understanding of the full implications of Freudian psychoanalytic theory could have provided the early feminists with a way of approaching the conceptual link that was needed between the social relations of the family and the objective forms of discrimination.
