Implementation of six weekly reading and discussion programs on the Constitution and civic engagement at 32 sites across Louisiana for at-risk children and their families.

PRIME TIME, a initiative of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH), engages at-risk 6 to 10 year-olds and their families in group exploration of texts to build text comprehension and critical thinking skills. Leveraging PRIME TIME’s infrastructure and proven approach to humanities-based learning, the LEH seeks funding through the Humanities in the Public Square opportunity to implement A More Perfect Union: Civic Education for American Families. This project intends to address the NEH/Common Good question: “How can the humanities deepen public understanding of the meaning of democratic citizenship in the twenty-first century in relationship to our founding principles and values, our political history, and our current circumstances?” A More Perfect Union will spark discussion and learning among Louisiana’s scholars, educators and families about the meaning of democratic citizenship in the 21st century. Approximately 10,850 Louisianans will be engaged in the project.
