FAIN: LD-234427-16

New York Council for the Humanities (New York, NY 10038-4364)
Michael Washburn (Project Director: June 2015 to November 2017)

Implementation of six town hall meetings modeling democratic dialogues, the creation of new “Reading and Discussion” modules, and “Community Conversation” toolkits on civic engagement.

The New York Council for the Humanities (the Council) respectfully requests $234,951 for The Democratic Dialogue Project, a multi-tier, statewide project that will explore the Common Good question “How can the humanities deepen public understanding of the meaning of democratic citizenship in the twenty-first century [...]?” Working with our scholar-advisors as well as a diverse range of community partners, the Council will host an inaugural public forum in New York City followed by a series of Town Hall public programs in other areas of the state, which will be made available on YouTube. Finally, as the education component of the project, we will offer complementary toolkits for our “Community Conversations” and “Reading & Discussion” programs that can be used by tax-exempt organizations in the state in order to continue and expand the conversation.
