Christina Torbert (Project Director: April 2011 to October 2013)

"Manifold Greatness: The Creation and Afterlife of the King James Bible" tells the story of origins, creation, and impact of the book, including the influence on English and American literature, and its multifaceted impact on culture and society to the present day. The year 2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the first printing of the King James Bible. This grant will allow the Library to host a traveling exhibit, based on a current exhibit at the Folger Shakespeare Library, for 4 weeks during the proposed period. The Library will also develop a concurrent display related to the exhibit from Archives and Special Collections, will host an opening reception, and will sponsor and co-sponsor different lectures and public events related to the exhibit.
