Planning and implementation of a public forum and workshop that explores Muslim poetry traditions to increase understanding of Muslim culture.

Stars, Stripes and the Crescent: Understanding Muslim Cultures through Poetry is a humanities forum and workshop that explores ways in which the performance, study, and interpretation of contemporary oral and literary Muslim poetry traditions can increase understanding of Muslim cultures. Understanding Muslim Cultures will host a day-long forum with panels that bring together scholars from a variety of disciplines with specializations in the poetry traditions of Muslim cultures. On the day following the forum, the scholars and scholar/poets will be joined by librarians, educators, journalists, and web (and web 2.0) specialists for a program development workshop designed to generate ideas and plans for a national dissemination initiative based in libraries and on the worldwide web.
