A cooperative agreement for a two-year professional and curriculum development project for faculty and academic administrators from eighteen community colleges to improve introductory humanities courses.

CCHA proposes a two-year project to enable 18 competitively selected community college teams of two faculty members and one administrator to implement curriculum and faculty developing programs to build community by advancing cultural understanding in introductory courses in history, literature, religion and philosophy, including an emphasis on civic engagement, based on the NEH BRIDGING CULTURES theme. Project scholars Clement Price (Rutgers University-Newark), Lyn Di Iorio Sandin (Graduate Center, CUNY) and John Voll (Georgetown University) and five community college mentors, Kathy Fedorko (Middlesex CC), Jeff Clausen (Green River CC), Maureen Nutting (North Seattle CC), Virginia York (Kettering Foundation), and Emily Tai ( Queensborough CC), will foster rich humanities content and serve to facilitate implementation of action plans. The project will produce a Case Studies Report with a "lessons learned" White Paper for dissemination and national replication.
