Nancy E. Green (Project Director: January 2007 to March 2011)

Implementation of a traveling exhibition, a catalog, a web site, a symposium, and related programs exploring the visual arts and artists of London's Bloomsbury group.

The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University is organizing an exhibition entitled A Room of Their Own: The Artists of Bloomsbury, that will travel to the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, the Shaw Art Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and the Block Museum at Northwest University in Chicago. The show will travel from fall 2008 until spring 2010. Although of another place and time, the Bloomsbury group confronted issues that are remarkably current: international crises, war, the value of craft in an industrialized world, women's rights, environmental protection and the search for the true, the good and the beautiful in their art and their lives. The exhibition, by examining the group's responses to these issues, provides a valuable mirror on how we can address similar concerns today.
