Kerry McCarthy (Project Director: September 2005 to December 2007)

Planning for a permanent exhibition and a website using puppetry as a lens through which to view commonalities and differences in world cultures from ancient times to the present.

This is a planning project for a new, long-term on-site exhibition, Puppetry: Common Threads of Humanity, anticipated to open at Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts in 2010, occupy 3,800 sq. ft., and display approximately 350 puppets and related objects. The theme of this exhibition is that puppetry is a universal lens that brings world cultures into focus, allowing for the exploration of both shared and unique features of the human experience across the globe and across history. The exhibition will be open to the public six days a week, with guided tours and complementary educational programs available, and will be documented and interpreted online and in a printed catalog.
