Farm Life is the story of farm families and rural communities facing change. Instead of focusing on the technology of farm life, this exhibition highlights farming's social and cultural contexts. The universal themes of family and community link farming and nonfarming viewers, providing hosting venues with an opportunity to examine agricultural changes within their own communities and to enhance the exhibition with local resources. Visitors to the exhibition will explore how political, economic, and cultrual roots influence families today, both on and off the farm. The study of American agricultural history and the rural experience provides important insights into the evolving character of American life. While most people are at least two generations removed from farming, Farm Life allows visitors to examine what they have in common with the unique and sometimes foreign world of farming in America.
