Barbara Angus (Project Director: September 2007 to January 2014)

A traveling exhibit on horse-drawn vehicles from the early 19th century to the automobile age. It includes information (photographic and artifactual) on types, usage, status and manufacturing. Within walking distance of the El Paso Museum of History were once several livery stables that provided most of the horses for El Paso?s business and residential traffic. Harness shops were located on S. El Paso St. and vehicles, wagons and buggies, were sold on Overland near the County Courthouse. The traveling exhibit may be augmented by historic images from the collections of the Museum and the Public Library, and by a number of artifacts, including harness making tools. It is anticipated that Dr. George Torok (El Paso Community College) will lecture on the history of transportation in the El Paso area. There is also the opportunity to work with the El Paso Sheriff?s Posse and the El Paso Riding and Driving Club.
