The Ellen Noel Art Museum of the Permian Basin requests a $1,000 grant to help support the cost of public humanities programming when it hosts the traveling exhibition Grass Roots. Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art traces the parallel histories of coiled basketrv in Africa and America. and explores the evolution of the ancient craft in today's global economy. African American baskets are both a reminder of this African heritage and a distinctive and uniguely American art. The Ellen Noel Art Museum's focus is on American Art. It is our fervent desire to demonstrate through this exhibition the global connections and analogous traditions we all share. helping to bring our diverse community together under the umbrella of the visual arts. thus fulfilling our mission of connecting people with art.
