FAIN: PA-50603-04

University of Missouri, St. Louis (St. Louis, MO 63121)
Louis P. Gerteis (Project Director: July 2003 to September 2006)

The creation of a digital archive of St. Louis diachronically from 1850 to 1950 that would incorporate text, image, audio, and video formats.

It is our goal to create new possibilities for scholars to examine and study the history and culture of the American city by creating a prototypical digital archives - including text, image, audio and video formats - from which humanities content can be accessed, manipulated and displayed in a 3-dimensional electronic landscape. In this virtual city archives, information about the city can be organized according to its authentic geography, and social, economic and demographic trends can be mapped across space and time. When we have established the St. Louis archives, we will turn our attention towards replicating our model in other virtual urban settings, including Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C.
