James X. Kroll (Project Director: July 2003 to January 2007)

The preparation of online finding aids for collections that cover the history of the American West since the mid-19th century.

The Denver Public Library requests funding for a two-year project to markup 280 finding aids in Extensible Markup Language (XML) Encoded Archival Description (EAD). The proposed project is a continuation of the pilot project begun in 2002, which comprised a review of current EAD standards and procedures, training, the encoding of 10 finding aids and the creation of Western History/Genealogy Web pages. The project will include finding aids created for manuscript collections from the Western History, the American Conservation Movement, the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division and the new African American Research Library.
