To support the cataloging and preservation of 20,000 gold objects from the archaeological site of Tillya Tepe located in northern Afghanistan (first century BCE to second century CE) excavated in 1979. Thought to be lost, destroyed, or dispersed during the Soviet invasion and subsequent civil war in Afghanistan, the collection was recovered in August 2003 and is a significant component of the cultural patrimony of Afghanistan.
