Rehousing Negatives in Photograph Collection

The purchase of supplies to rehouse negatives in the Walter B. Lane Photograph Collection focusing on regional Pennsylvania history in the latter half of the 20th century.

We wish to purchase photographic negative sleeves to rehouse negatives in our Lane Photograph Collection. We completed a general conservation survey in December 2003, funded by a CAP Grant from the IMLS. The first recommendation in the executive summary of the report is to use archival-quality long-term storage supplies. Conservator Brian Ramer specifically identified a need to rehouse our photographic negatives in appropriate archival supplies. They are currently in archival storage boxes but not in archivally approved sleeves. Our collections manager will direct this project using our staff, volunteers and interns.
