Purchasing storage furniture and materials to preserve material culture collections that relate to the history and culture of southern Vermont and New England.

This proposal requests support for replacement of a wooden storage unit with a nickel-plated wire rack system and corresponding sizes of textile and archival print boxes. Bennington Museum is currently equipped with a considerable amount of inappropriate storage furniture including a 38-foot span of painted wooden drawers, which hold fragile textiles, paper ephemera, toys, fans, and other objects. All of these objects are susceptible to acids. While the objects are tissue-wrapped and drawers lined with muslin, discoloration to the linens demonstrates the presence of acid migration. Currently, objects are also very difficult to access, to get to one object, many other objects must be moved, which causes unnecessary wear.
