Laramie Plains Museum (Laramie, WY 82070-3243)
JoNel Wilmot (Project Director: May 2005 to April 2007)

Hiring a conservation consultant to conduct a preservation assessment of textiles, as well as to provide a training workshop for staff and volunteers of the museum. The staffs of area museums would be invited to participate in the training workshop.

We will use the grant funds to hire Terri Schindel, Conservator, to conduct training of staff and volunteers in proper storage techniques for organic materials in our collection. Her assessment of the current storage conditions will guide us in setting short-, mid-, and long-term goals for such items as staffing, collection policies, storage, exhibits, and facilities. Facility recommendations will include environmental controls, emergency preparedness and security. Area museums will be invited to send representatives to the training to enhance the training opportunity and begin dialog among museums.
