Environmental Monitoring and Collections Storage Improvements

FAIN: PA-51533-06

U.S.S. Constellation Museum (Baltimore, MD 21202-3110)
Kennedy Richard Hickman (Project Director: May 2005 to August 2006)

The purchase of equipment to monitor environmental conditions and cabinets to properly store collections, which include shipbuilding tools dating from the mid to late 19th century and personal artifacts owned or used by those who sailed aboard the "Constellation" during its 100 years of service from 1855 to 1955.

The USS Constellation Museum desires funding to purchase collections storage furniture, conservation materials, and environmental monitoring equipment. These materials are for use in implementing the recommendations made in the Museum’s General Conservation Assessment Report, written as part of the institution’s participation in the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP). Specifically, the Museum seeks to acquire a Viking V238 Mark IV Conservation Cabinet, with relevant interior hardware and conservation materials, to house its shipbuilding tools and crew ephemera collections. In addition, the Museum would like to purchase a hygrothermograph to monitor conditions within its collections storage area.
