FAIN: PA-51535-06

New Jersey Historical Society (Newark, NJ 07104-3926)
Timothy Decker (Project Director: May 2005 to June 2007)

A conservation assessment of 1,150 works of art on paper that relate to the history of New Jersey from the 18th century to the present, with an evaluation of the condition of each item and recommendations for prioritized measures for their preservation and for the purchase of supplies.

The New Jersey Historical Society (NJHS) will contract with paper conservator Caroline Rieger to conduct a general preservation assessment of a portion of our collection of approximately 1,150 works of art on paper. The project will include an item-by-item survey of the collection and a long-range plan for its care, including prioritized recommendations for preservation measures. The request of $5,000 will cover the total cost of the project, including the purchase of basic preservation supplies recommended by Ms. Rieger in her letter of commitment. This project is part of NJHS’s organizational commitment to preserve and promote New Jersey’s artistic and cultural heritage.
