Purchase of Environmental Monitoring Equipment and Training

The purchase of equipment and the training of staff to monitor environmental conditions in exhibition and storage spaces for a collection of more than two million historic artifacts, photographs, and archival materials that document domestic life, culture, business, and industry in the Pacific Northwest from early Euro-American settlement to the present.

The Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) is taking steps to strengthen the preservation of its collections of more than 2 million historic artifacts, photographs and archival materials. MOHAI will purchase state-of-the-art environmental monitoring equipment, software and accessories for use in the museum galleries, collections storage areas and MOHAI’s Sophie Frye Bass Research Library. MOHAI will purchase four Preservation Environment Monitors (PEMs) by Image Permanence Institute of Rochester, NY. MOHAI will also purchase the associated software, "Climate Notebook," which aids in analyzing data. MOHAI will also train its collections and library staff on how to use PEMs and Climate Notebook software.
