Preservation Plan for Archives at Packwood House Museum

FAIN: PA-51595-06

Packwood House Museum (Lewisburg, PA 17837)
Sara Phinney Kelley (Project Director: May 2005 to April 2006)

A general preservation assessment and the development of an archival management plan to preserve the personal papers of the museum's founders and manuscripts, correspondence, books, and other materials related to the institution.

The Packwood House Museum is requesting funds to hire Valerie Metzler, archivist and historian, to conduct a preservation needs assessment of the archival collections. She will assess the current condition of the Museum’s archival collections, develop a plan for arrangement and description, and determine what materials are needed to properly rehouse them. The outcome of the project would be a report that describes the next steps for arrangement, description, and cataloging, as well as a detailed listing of the supplies that would be needed to properly store the entire collection in a way that not only preserves it, but makes it more useful to a broad public.
